The Blue House Pants project was inspired by a stack of donated sheets and a friend’s question about where to buy “fair-trade boxers.” In December we whipped up a few pairs of boxers and drawstring pants for family and friends. Later this winter – with newly donated fabric remnants (and still more sheets) – we began what we hope might become a cottage industry.
They’re simple, unique, and kind of cool-looking. They’ll be made out of re-purposed fabric and sold at a fair price to benefit the House. And they’re a great bang for the buck for folks who want to buy locally-made, sustainably produced clothing while supporting our other projects at the same time.
We need volunteers of all skill-levels. Folks who know how to sew can help teach others and also maybe whip out a few pairs of pants to build up our initial inventory. People who want to learn how to sew can learn to use the sewing machine while practicing on house napkins (desperately needed), then graduate to pants-making.
Our next Blue House Pants Workshop: TBA
Donations needed:
- 100% cotton sheets, pillowcases, fabric remnants, and other pieces of sturdy cloth
- Thread of all colors (if you sew, you’ve probably got a drawer-full of thread left from past projects).
We’d like to limit our materials to used or left-over items as a way to make good of things that would otherwise go to waste.
