HOUSE NEWS: Blankets needed! Also a pre-election roundtable, Art for All, more!

Click here to see an entire list of what is happening this week at the Gainesville Catholic Worker.

BLANKET DONATIONS NEEDED: Tonight is set to get down into the 40’s and we know that folks are going to start coming by to see if we have any extra blankets to give out. For our friends on the street, and even some of our friends who have shelter but no heat, blankets are a necessity when the weather turns cooler. We hope you’ll consider dropping off any old blankets, sleeping bags, etc. that you may have around the house. Best time to drop them off is each day between 1-5pm, but even if no one is here to answer the door, you can leave them on the front stoop. For our friends who are sleeping outside and already have blankets, we let them know that if their blankets get dirty or wet, they can bring them to the house and swap them out for a clean blanket. We then wash their old blankets and pass them on to someone else who needs them.

PRE-ELECTION ROUNDTABLE: On Thursday at 6:30pm, we’ll host the monthly roundtable and potluck dinner, discussing the upcoming election. We’ll ask a few regular speakers from Roundtables past to share a short synopsis of what most stands out to them about this year’s election, then we’ll open it up for a discussion among everyone attending. If you can bring a dish to share, that would be great. Thanks!

KNITTING FOR THOSE WHO WILL BE COLD: Come join the Green House Knitters on Monday night, 7:30-9:30pm, and knit a hat or scarf for one of our friends from the street who will need it this winter. Learn to knit, work on a personal project, enjoy the company (and the fire if it is cold enough!)–whatever works for you!

ART FOR ALL THIS WEEK: From 1-4pm at the house this Saturday, artists and crafters will be making beautiful things like the quilting squares turned into welcoming flags which hang above the front door at the GCW (see the photo at the top of this post). Linda Gardner and Mary Peer, two leaders of the Art for All project, created them! Everyone is welcome to come, whether for the whole time or whatever time you can spare!

Hope you’ll drop by and help out at the cafe this week, or join us for anything else going on!
