Important news regarding the Green House (updated)

Dear friends,

We are sorry to tell you that we have decided to step back from the Catholic Worker for the time being and that we will no longer be living at the Green House. We are so grateful for all of the support we have received over the years – both personally and as a community. There is a group of people – many who have been volunteers, community members and present from the very beginning of our work together – who are interested in keeping the house and the projects going. Some folks have committed to living at the house over the course of the next year, while others are committed to offering financial and volunteer support. We are hopeful that a firm foundation has been built and that the Gainesville Catholic Worker will continue.

We ask for your understanding – and your forgiveness – for not being able right now to carry on with the work we started together. We also ask for your prayers and support for the continually renewed effort to live faithfully in this time and place that the Green House represents. The house will be closed for the next few weeks until the transition to a new live-in community is complete and plans to restart the various projects get off the ground. We’ll make sure an update is sent out when a more firm timeline for reopening is in place.

With great gratitude,
Kelli and John

You both have been a blessing to all who know you. I don’t know why or where you will be, but I guess we had always assumed you would be there forever. Love you and wish you well. Nancy and Bill Demers

  5. Boundless thanks and love to you both for all you have done over the years. Please let us know if there is anything you need. Perhaps it is time for others to take over this burden. No matter what befalls you, I pray that God holds you in the palm of God’s hand.

    • Hi Mia,

A group of us came together to see if we could keep things going, and the Green House was reopened October 1, and has been functioning in much the same way as it did before for this school year. We are taking one day at a time. If you are interested to know what’s going on with the House, see the more recent updates.
