Lenten Bible Study, Special Presentation March 13, and more…
LENTEN BIBLE STUDY BEGINS NEXT MONDAY: We are so pleased to announce that Marijka Ulanowicz will be leading a Lenten Bible study for us on several Mondays during Lent. Marijka has an M.A. in scripture from Washington Theological Union. She will be taking us through a close reading of the passion narrative in the Gospel of John. Each session will begin with a brief Lenten Prayer Service. Here is the full schedule:
Monday, March 10, 7:30-9pm: Introduction to the Gospel of John
Monday, March 17, 7:30-9pm: First segment of the Passion in John
Monday, March 24, 7:30-9pm: Second segment of the Passion in John
***note: no session on Monday, March 31***
Monday, April 7, 7:30-9pm: Third segment of the Passion in John
If there is interest, we will follow up with two more sessions in late April/early May looking at the Resurrection and the Epilogue of John’s Gospel. Thank you so much to Marijka for agreeing to do this. Please join us—you won’t want to miss this wonderful opportunity!
MARK YOUR CALENDARS—SPECIAL PRESENTATION ON “SETTING BOUNDARIES” ON MARCH 13th by MARSHALL KNUDSON: As have previously mentioned, the director of the Alachua County Crisis Center, Marshall Knudson, will be coming to share a special presentation on “Setting Boundaries” on Thursday, March 13 from 7-8:30pm at the Green House. We are sure that this will be an immensely helpful and informative evening. All of our volunteers are strongly encouraged to attend, as well as any other interested members of the community. Check out the facebook event page for this presentation here.
VICKIE MACHADO TO REPRESENT GCW AT DOROTHY DAY CONFERENCE: We are grateful that Vickie Machado, a member of the GCW community and past resident of the Green House, has consented to represent us at a conference entitled “Dorothy Day: A Saint for our Time” to be held at St. Thomas University in Miami this coming weekend. We look forward to hearing all about it. Thank you, Vickie!

THANK YOU LYNN AND JADE: A huge thanks to Lynn Chacko and Jade Allen for hosting our pre-Lenten retreat this past weekend. We were blessed to spend time in the olive grove at their microfarm, on a most beautiful spring-like day, considering the call and command of Sabbath. Over the next few weeks, we will share some of the material from that retreat in our “quotation of the week” section, starting with a prayer by Fr. Edward Hays that we used during our prayer service at the retreat.
QUOTATION OF THE WEEK:
Lenten Psalm of Awakening
Come, O Life-giving Creator,
and rattle the door latch
of my slumbering heart.
Awaken in these fortified days
of Lenten prayer and discipline
my youthful dream of holiness.
Call me forth from the prison camp
of my numerous past defeats
and my narrow patterns of being
to make my ordinary life extra-ordinarily alive,
through the passion of my love.
Show to me during these Lenten days
how to take the daily things of life
and, by submerging them in the sacred,
to infuse them with great love
for you, O God, and for others.
Guide me to perform simple acts of love and prayer,
the real works of reform and renewal
of this overture to the spring of the Spirit.
O Father of Jesus, Mother of Christ,
help me not to waste
these precious Lenten days
of my soul’s spiritual springtime.
